DESCRIPTION:Drawing on the book “The Travels of Marco Polo\,” by the greatest adventurer of his time\, the man who connected East and West more than 700 years ago\, the author guides us through exotic\, at times surreal\, regions and cultures in search of evidence of Marco Polo’s travels. On the Silk Road\, we will encounter territories and discover numerous cultural-historical curiosities and cultural differences. We will be introduced to Islamic\, Hindu\, and Buddhist religious and civilizational spheres. The warmest deserts of Iran\, Turkmenistan\, Mongolia\, and China are depicted. The author of the exhibition and his team climbed over 5\,000 meters in Tajikistan and Tibet and traversed 18 countries. In Marco Polo’s time\, the network of trade routes was full of abundance\, but also dangers and wars. Much like today. \nIn conversations with ordinary people\, stories were heard about customs\, beliefs\, crafts\, and behaviors unknown to us\, as well as the values of life that have developed or are developing. SUMMARY:Disinformation and Fake News - a Europa Direct Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of Europe Day\, and in anticipation of the European Parliament elections\, EUROPE Direct Korčula is organizing an educational workshop titled “Disinformation and Fake News\,” which will take place on May 10\, 2024\, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Ivan Vidali Town Library in Korčula. \nDisinformation\, or fake news\, has been playing a significant role in shaping public opinion worldwide for several years\, especially during election cycles. Our region is not exempt from the dissemination of false information\, and the topics with the highest potential for disinformation during this super election year in Croatia have been identified by the Adria Digital Media Observatory. \nWhat are disinformation and how can we recognize them? Why do some people spread false news and what are their motives? How can disinformation be reported? Answers to all these questions will be provided at the workshop\, where we will collectively delve beneath the surface and discover the dangers of disinformation\, as well as the key steps in combating fake news. \nThe workshop will be led by the head of the Department of Communication at the University of Dubrovnik\, Prof. Dr. Mato Brautović\, who is also the main coordinator of the Adriatic Center for Combating Disinformation (ADMOHUB). \nThe event is open to the general public.
