DESCRIPTION:Slovenian artist Igor Štromajer presents “.else.if”\, an interactive digital exhibition premiering ten collaborative poems created by both human and machine. This innovative interface is designed for mobile devices and accessible exclusively via Wi-Fi on St. Mark’s Square in Korčula. \nThe project emerges from Štromajer’s 2011 ritualistic act of deleting 37 of his early net art works (1996–2007) in the piece Expunction – Deleting intima.org Net Art Works. DESCRIPTION:Early voices (Norway)\nBach & surprise … \n__________________ \nAbout the festival: \nThe Korkyra Barouque Festival has established itself as one of the finest early music festivals in Croatia with consistently high standards of performance\, artists and beautiful venues. \nThe Festival was founded in 2012. under the artistic direction of Saša Britvić and with financial support from Maša and Michael Unsworth. The aim was to present performances of early music by the finest Croatian and International artists to local inhabitants and visitors to the area. \nThe Festival has built a reputation with both audiences and performers as an outstanding cultural event that combines magical music with beautiful surroundings. The churches\, atriums\, squares and hidden courtyards combined with the natural beauty of Korcula and the Peljesac Peninsula provide perfect settings for beautiful music. \nFollowing the sad death of Saša Britvic in 2015. the Artistic Direction of the Festival was taken over by the violinist Laura Vadjon\, who has furthered and strengthened the legacy with the support from HRBA (Croatian Baroque Ensemble) of which she is the Director . They provide a strong core of talented performers and have been the residential ensemble since the first edition of the Festival. \nThis year’s Festival presents ten thematically different programs featuring performers from England\, Spain\, Finland\, Italy\, Belgium\, Scotland and Croatia. Apart from the town of Korčula\, festival programs can also be heard on the island of Vrnik\, in Vela Luka\,Račišće\, Pupnat and in Viganj. From Bach to flamenco\, from instrumental virtuosos and renowned vocal soloists to a Scottish choir at the end. \nOn the 1st of September we will present a new Croatian two-manual harpsichord from the Pavlinić & Depolo workshops which was commissioned by our patron and founder of the Festival – Michael Unsworth. \nWe are proud that\, despite COVID restrictions\, we have been able to present a strong programme to our audiences every year and look forward to producing great performances for many years to come. \n__________________ \nNeed transportation to the venue? The churches\, atriums\, squares and hidden courtyards combined with the natural beauty of Korcula and the Peljesac Peninsula provide perfect settings for beautiful music. \nFollowing the sad death of Saša Britvic in 2015. the Artistic Direction of the Festival was taken over by the violinist Laura Vadjon\, who has furthered and strengthened the legacy with the support from HRBA (Croatian Baroque Ensemble) of which she is the Director . They provide a strong core of talented performers and have been the residential ensemble since the first edition of the Festival. \nThis year’s Festival presents ten thematically different programs featuring performers from England\, Spain\, Finland\, Italy\, Belgium\, Scotland and Croatia. Apart from the town of Korčula\, festival programs can also be heard on the island of Vrnik\, in Vela Luka\,Račišće\, Pupnat and in Viganj. SUMMARY:Marco Polo [Opera Week]
DESCRIPTION:This opera is one of many partially forgotten or lost Croatian operas\, or in this case\, destroyed. The score and nearly all orchestral parts were lost in the devastating fire that consumed the Croatian National Theatre in Split in 1970\, with the building’s reconstruction taking until 1979. \nThankfully\, the Yugoslav Composers’ Society had printed a piano reduction of the opera\, although without any notes specifying the instruments for each section. Despite this\, the piano extract played a crucial role in preserving the work. Originally composed in 1954 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s birth (1254-1954) and completed in 1955\, the opera was performed only three times in 1960 and twice in 1962. \nNow\, as we approach the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death\, the time is ripe to revive this forgotten masterpiece. The revival involves an extensive orchestration project based on the existing piano reduction\, overseen by maestro Josip degl’ Ivellio\, who previously worked on the Baroque opera The Siege of Korčula. Members at the time were Václav Huml\, first violine\, Milan Graf\, second violine\, Ladislav Škatula (later Miranov)\, viola and Umberto Fabbri\, cello – all of them professors at Zagreb conservatory. \n

SUMMARY:Our Lady of the Snow - Pupnat
DESCRIPTION:The Our Lady of the Snow celebration is a wonderful opportunity to experience the deep-rooted traditions and warm hospitality of Pupnat. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor\, this event promises to be a memorable and enriching experience. This is a unique chance to see Kumpanija\, a traditional sword dance that is a cornerstone of the island’s folklore. In the evening hours\, join the locals at the concert of two well known Croatian singers – Mladen Grdović and Danijela Martinović. \n__________________________________________ \nAbout the Pupnat Parish \nThe Parish of Our Lady of the Snow in Pupnat was established in 1625\, separating from the parish of Žrnovo. Due to the small number of inhabitants\, the parish was often managed by priests from Žrnovo. In 1850\, it was reduced to an exposed chaplaincy. However\, by the late 19th century\, Pupnat’s population had grown to over 700\, and it regained its parish status in 1896. \nThe Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mercy also played significant roles in Pupnat’s history. The sisters resided in the parish for 68 years. Starting in 1940\, they lived in a private house\, which was later replaced by a house built by the parish. The sisters opened a clinic\, visited the sick\, managed the parish household\, and cared for the church. In early 2008\, due to a decrease in their numbers\, they left the parish. \nToday\, Pupnat is the smallest parish on the island. According to the 1971 census\, the parish had 771 residents and 158 families. The 2001 census recorded 433 residents in 105 households for Pupnat and Kneže. Since 1970\, Kneže has been part of the Račišće parish\, leaving Pupnat with about 300 residents in 80 households. The population is of the Catholic faith.
