SUMMARY:Photography Exhibiton - "From Marco to Polo - On the Silk Road"
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on the book “The Travels of Marco Polo\,” by the greatest adventurer of his time\, the man who connected East and West more than 700 years ago\, the author guides us through exotic\, at times surreal\, regions and cultures in search of evidence of Marco Polo’s travels. On the Silk Road\, we will encounter territories and discover numerous cultural-historical curiosities and cultural differences. We will be introduced to Islamic\, Hindu\, and Buddhist religious and civilizational spheres. The warmest deserts of Iran\, Turkmenistan\, Mongolia\, and China are depicted. The author of the exhibition and his team climbed over 5\,000 meters in Tajikistan and Tibet and traversed 18 countries. In Marco Polo’s time\, the network of trade routes was full of abundance\, but also dangers and wars. Much like today. \nIn conversations with ordinary people\, stories were heard about customs\, beliefs\, crafts\, and behaviors unknown to us\, as well as the values of life that have developed or are developing. The experience of the fantastic world and imagination has not changed much since the time of Marco Polo. \nPhotographs by: Miro Branković

SUMMARY:The Siege of Korčula [Opera Week]
DESCRIPTION:Korčula\, with its romantic streets and squares\, is the perfect setting for intimate classical music concerts\, a tradition that has continued for years every July and August. This August\, the spotlight is on Opera Week\, featuring a stunning musical performance that began two years ago with the premiere of the comic opera “The Siege of Korčula.” \nOriginally performed in London on August 12\, 1876\, at the Royal Theatre on Haymarket\, this opera was composed by Samuel Arnold\, a prominent figure in late Baroque English music and a disciple of Handel. The libretto was penned by John O’Keefe\, a celebrated playwright of his time\, often called the “London Molière.” \nThough the original score was lost\, a simple harpsichord arrangement of the sung parts survived. Today\, thanks to the dedication of Dora Maček (translation)\, Silvio Foretić (adaptation of the first and second acts)\, and Josip degl’ Ivellio (musicological research\, orchestration\, and adaptation of the third act)\, this opera has been meticulously reconstructed and brought back to life. \nJoin us for this unique operatic experience and dive into the rich cultural heritage of Korčula! \n\nTickets available for purchase at Kaleta Travel Agency and Korkyra Info. \n\nWhen buying two or more tickets\, you get 20% discount. \nIn the event of rain\, the performance will be held at the Culture Centre.
