On the occasion of Europe Day, and in anticipation of the European Parliament elections, EUROPE Direct Korčula is organizing an educational workshop titled “Disinformation and Fake News,” which will take place on May 10, 2024, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Ivan Vidali Town Library in Korčula.
Disinformation, or fake news, has been playing a significant role in shaping public opinion worldwide for several years, especially during election cycles. Our region is not exempt from the dissemination of false information, and the topics with the highest potential for disinformation during this super election year in Croatia have been identified by the Adria Digital Media Observatory.
What are disinformation and how can we recognize them? Why do some people spread false news and what are their motives? How can disinformation be reported? Answers to all these questions will be provided at the workshop, where we will collectively delve beneath the surface and discover the dangers of disinformation, as well as the key steps in combating fake news.
The workshop will be led by the head of the Department of Communication at the University of Dubrovnik, Prof. Dr. Mato Brautović, who is also the main coordinator of the Adriatic Center for Combating Disinformation (ADMOHUB).
The event is open to the general public. Participation is free, but registration is mandatory.
