Moreška
Experience the unique knightly tradition of the town of Korčula through a performance of Moreška — a historic sword dance preserved for centuries on this island.
Moreška is a striking stage combat dance performed regularly throughout the summer months, and especially on July 29th, the feast day of St. Theodore, the patron saint of the town. Historical documents confirm that Moreška was already being performed in the 17th century, while its origins are believed to date back to the 16th century, when it was associated with practicing sword-fighting techniques.
This unique traditional performance blends martial skill, music, traditional costumes, and the powerful symbolism of the struggle between good and evil.
